Quality Editing Services

Editing services I offer include developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Proofreading is always the very last step in the writing process and is generally not included with a developmental or line edit.

Customized Editing Services

My editing services are customized to meet each client’s needs and expectations. Rates vary depending on what those needs are.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing involves looking at the manuscript as a whole, including the development of characters and/or plot, as well as overall organization. A developmental edit involves in-text comments, suggestions, and examples, as well as an extensive and thorough editorial letter to guide and direct you and offer you specific strategies for revision.

Line Editing

Line editing typically follows a developmental edit. Whereas a developmental edit looks at the document on a macro level, line editing focuses on all the nitty-gritty micro details–sentence structure, word choice, clarity, and flow.

Copyediting and Proofreading

Copyediting and proofreading are the last steps in the editing process.

Technical and Academic Editing

Both technical and academic editing typically include the following aspects:

1. Paragraph Organization, Sentence Structure, and Coherence

Does the prose make sense? Does all the information within a paragraph connect together logically? Are there a variety of sentence structures used?

2. Transitions, Flow, and Cohesion

Effective communication is persuasive communication. Technical and academic manuscripts should have clear transitional words/phrases and a logical flow of information for optimum effectiveness.

3. Word Choice/Wordiness, Grammar, and Clarity

Clear communication is effective communication. Therefore, precise word choice is important, as is grammatical accuracy.
